Google Business Profile Tips for Small Businesses: Get More Visibility, Reviews & Clients

Sep 25
2 min read

Your website SEO and Google profile are not the same, even though they both contribute to your small business' visibility. Visibility is what makes someone aware of your business. If you've been operating under the assumption that your website and Google are performing fine because you claimed your Google business listing.... you're going to want to keep reading.

Search engines, like Google, index your website and learn to reference it based on terms associated with your page the last time it was indexed. Frequent updates to your website means the search engine has more up-to-date information to consider each time it returns a search result. The more your website uses phrases people may be searching for, the better your website is optimized for the search engine to return it in the most appropriate situations (SEO).

But that's just one tool in the start of a customer's journey. You'll also want to claim and maintain your free Google My Business Profile.

Did I mention it was free?

While verifying your profile at the kick off is reportedly more complicated than it was years ago when we started our businesses, April and I discuss why it's worth it in the YouTube video below.

April Courville, [ The Conversion Curator ], and I chatted about three main takeaways when it comes to your Google Business Profile.

YOUR PROFILE IS AN ACTIVE PART OF YOUR MARKETING PLAN

  • Did we mention that it's free?

  • Take advantage of it and use it like you would utilize social media.

  • Post photos, updates, events, and holiday hours.

YOUR REVIEWS ARE DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING

  • If you have nothing else, have reviews.

  • Not only are they telling others what they can expect, it's an SEO goldmine!

  • No carrot dangling necessary, just a few drip automations in your funnel.

THE JOURNEY CAN'T JUST STOP WHEN THEY GET TO YOUR WEBSITE

  • They got to your website. Now what?

  • Is there an obvious next step or do viewers get lost in information?

  • Do you have a clear path on the journey you want people to take?

That's where April and I are taking this conversation next. Building a path that actually converts customers.

On September 29, we're digging into what happens after someone finds you and how to build a path that actually converts those looks into customers.

We'll be looking at the pieces between “someone found me” and “someone hired me,” including your website, traffic, and the journey you're creating for potential customers.
