Why I Don't Recommend Every Good Business

Day FIVE of THIRTY days of writing something every day.

I just got done sitting on Day FOUR of my 30 days of writing where I reference how seriously I take referring someone's business to other people and it got me thinking... what ARE my standards for businesses I recommend with my whole chest?

So, I came up with a list of questions I like answers to or experiences with before referring someone to spend money at your small business. I figured it would give you a nice starting point on what to consider as your build or refine your business.

There are no right or wrong answers. Just information.

Planning content for service-based businesses focused on attracting the right clients.

I've found in my 7 years as a profitable, woman owned business and more than 20 years as a customer these questions to be golden when connecting the right service based business to the right customer. Not everyone needs the same level of care to come out with a positive experience.

FOUR QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IF YOU WANT TO INTENTIONALLY MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH THE "RIGHT" CUSTOMERS 👉

What’s your process like?

  • Do you lead the client from inquiry through delivery? Only at onboarding?

  • Do you give reminders and send calendar invites consistently? Is the customer responsible for that?

  • Does your process position you as the expert to know or someone fulfilling a need as needed?

What’s your communication style?

  • Do you text from your personal phone? Only take calls on request?

  • Are you proactive with answering questions before the client knows she has them?

  • Do your emotions allow you to seek resolution during high tension? Or is there a lot of overlap in business/personal?

  • How quickly can clients expect a response?

  • How do you manage client expectations? How do you facilitate the client setting their own expectations?

How does your lifestyle affect your business?

  • What systems do you have in place so when you can’t fulfill your end of the bargain, the client is left feeling empathy and not resentment?

  • How does your travel or social life impact your ability to deliver a client forward experience?

  • How do you manage your schedule and calendar?

Why would people hire you?

  • What do they love?

  • What shortcomings or challenges are known, but tolerated, because of the weight of the positive?

  • What price range are they shopping in and hiring in?

  • What services and deliverables can they expect?

There are no right or wrong answers. Just information. And if you read through this and thought, "I haven't thought about any of that," DON'T. PANIC.

The Bulletin is not about what you're not doing-- it's about what you offer and how you currently "package and deliver" it. It's simply a list I use to be able to help people manage their expectations before investing their budgeted dollars.

No right or wrong answers, just information about the way you do business.
